As a student at Cap-A-Village (“Village”), you have the right to be and feel safe within the Village community. With this right comes the responsibility of being accountable for any action or behaviour that may put at risk your own safety and wellbeing, or that of others.

At the Village we implement strategies to build a positive school culture that fosters caring and respectful relationships between students and their teachers. Compliance with the Code of Conduct is a shared responsibility between you, your parents/guardians and the Village team.

You are expected to abide by all Village Code of Conduct.

Rights and Responsibilities

The following rights and responsibilities are held to apply to all members of the Village community.

Every person has the right to:

• Be treated with respect and dignity.

• Live within the Village community free of verbal, physical and emotional hurt.

• Hold and respectfully express an opinion.

• Work in a positive learning environment.

• Achieve one's personal best in all aspects of learning.

• Participate fully in the life of the Village.

• Work in a clean, safe environment.

• Feel proud to belong to the Village.

• Have property respected.

Every person has the responsibility to:

• Treat others with respect and dignity.

• Refrain from hurtful behaviours (e.g. those behaviours such as name-calling, exclusion and targeting on social media are examples)

• Respect another's right to hold and respectfully express an opinion.

• Contribute to a positive learning environment.

• Do one's best in all aspects of learning.

• Maintain a clean, safe environment.

• Respect the property of every member of the Village community.

Attendance

When working in a Project Team, you need to take into account that being away from the project will put additional pressure on the remaining project team members. Also, be aware that time spent away from the Village will disadvantage you socially (due to limited time with other students at the Village). It is the Village’s expectation that you will attend on as many days throughout the year that you are able to. Your teachers and other staff work hard in their preparation of the projects and other learning activities for you and with every expectation that you will attend school.

Behaviour

Respectful relationships are expected between all members of the community. You are encouraged to engage with other students, your teachers, staff and members of the community in kind, and respectful ways. This will support your learning, as well as your social and emotional development, growth and well-being. All forms of bullying are unacceptable. You are encouraged to report any incident of bullying to a trusted adult or friend. You should not tolerate any observed bullying behaviours of others that are not acceptable and not be a passive bystander.

Breach of Code of Conduct

Any student may report a possible breach of the Student Code of Conduct to a trusted adult. Each incident will be treated with respect and confidentiality and dealt with on a case by case basis.
